Exam period and teaching

No changes are currently planned at University level in the organisation of the exam period for the 2019/2020 academic year, nor in the beginning and organisation of the winter semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. Emphasis will be placed on stricter preventive hygiene measures during exams, while students are present on faculty premises.

Please be aware that from 10 September 2020 the wearing of face masks is mandatory.

Students on foreign-language degree programmes

In order to allow all students to start their studies, we have facilitated remote registration through the Study Information System for applicants who have been accepted for study and cannot, for demonstrable, objective reasons, be physically present for registration. Applicants will be informed of this procedure by their faculties.

Charles University shall issue the newly required document “Confirmation of an entity receiving in the territory of the Czech Republic a third country citizen for the purpose of economic activity or educational activity”, which has been required of new applicants for study visas as of 13 July 2020, to successful applicants and send it together with other documents so that applicants have them prior to their interview at Czech embassies.

Academic ceremonies – graduation and matriculation

Graduation: Under current valid measures, persons actively participating in formal academic ceremonies at universities are exempt from the requirement to wear face masks. Both academics and students participating in graduation ceremonies will therefore not be required to wear a face mask. This exemption does not, however, apply to guests at the ceremony.

Matriculation: The only restriction in place during the ceremony is the shaking of hands. Students shall swear their matriculation oath by raising their hand towards the head of the sceptre and then only nodding towards the dean, to whom they then say the words “I swear”, without the shaking of hands. The dean shall respond to the oath by nodding his/her head, so there will be no shaking of hands, but only nodding of heads.

Dormitories and canteens

From 1 September 2020 all catering facilities at CU will be open, with the exception of the Troja canteen, which will not open until October 2020. From 19 September 2020 all CU dormitories will be open as normal.
